The Great Simplification

The Great Simplification

Each episode of The Great Simplification consists of an interview by the host Nate Hagens with someone able to provide insight into an aspect of the climate and biodiversity crises (or 'polycrisis'). Most episodes come in at over an hour which allows time to explore the subject matter.

I’d especially recommend two recent episodes – Ep 134 with Johann Rockström (joint director of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research) on the topic of Planetary Boundaries, and Ep 141 “Global Heating 101: Rapid-Fire Answers to the Biggest Climate Questions”, with Stefan Rahmstorf (Co-Head of Research Department on Earth System Analysis of the Potsdam Institute and Professor of Physics of the Oceans at Potsdam University). Both guests are extremely knowledgeable about climate science and are able to communicate the information lucidly and objectively (in English which is their second language!).

I will not easily forget Rahmstorf’s comparison of 420 parts per million of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere to 300 gallons of p*** in an Olympic swimming pool (both are 4 parts per 10,000).
