CA-WN Public Meeting 21 May and the People's Emergency Briefing

CA-WN Public Meeting 21 May and the People's Emergency Briefing

Public Meeting - 'Delivering Change Locally'

May's guest speaker is Stuart Dawks, CEO of PECT, a charity set up (originally as Peterborough Environment City Trust) to protect and enhance the environment. His topic, 'Delivering Change Locally', really resonates with what CA-WN is working to achieve. Stuart will talk about PECT’s climate and environmental work since they were set up over 30 years ago, covering:

  • A brief history of PECT and how their role has evolved over the past 30+ years
  • Examples of some of their work, including natural environment projects and behaviour change programmes, and a look at their recent FutureNow programme, focused on city-scale decarbonisation in Peterborough
  • How PECT engage different audiences, including schools, businesses and community groups
  • Reflections on the opportunities and challenges in delivering practical climate action at a local level

Community Screenings of the People's Emergency Briefing

The People’s Emergency Briefing film features footage from last November’s National Emergency Briefing which brought together leading UK experts in climate science, food security, health, economics, national security and nature.

It presents a clear, measured overview of how the climate and nature crisis is affecting everyday life in Britain - and what the evidence says about risks and responses.

The purpose of the film is to support informed democratic discussion and ensure Parliament and the public share a common understanding of the scale and urgency of the challenge.

CA-WN is hosting three screenings locally:

After the 45-minute film there will be a 45-minute structured discussion on what this means for our community.

The event is free so please come along and bring your friends.

NB as there's limited space at these venues advance registration is essential. You can register for each venue using the links above.
