Parents For Future UK
Thank you to Rachel Tighe for this introduction to Parents For Future.
Parents For Future UK (PFF) was formed in 2019 by a group of mums to help engage more adults to join the climate crisis. Our vision is to achieve climate justice, creating a safer, fairer and liveable planet for all children. We are the biggest parent climate group in the UK and have built a supportive, inclusive, thriving community online and offline, with over 30 local groups across the UK.
In PFF we join in with national campaigns addressing the climate crisis and its impacts as well as creating some of our own campaigns and actions. Local groups will decide among themselves what actions are relevant for their local area from engaging with schools, to hosting toy swaps or creative workshops to spread ideas and education around protecting our planet.
I (Rachel) have always been eco minded and consciously started trying to reduce my impact on the planet more in 2018/19. When I had my daughter I began to realise how serious the climate crisis was and that action wasn’t happening fast enough and so wanted to join a group where I could take practical action. Being a new parent I knew I would struggle to have much time. PFF seemed to provide a perfect balance, an action group but a supportive environment of parents who are struggling to balance family life with dedicating time to protect our planet.
I have joined in with online campaigns, written to my local MP about national bills being debated in parliament, been to 2 peaceful rallies in London and met my MP in the Houses of Parliament. I felt the need to become part of a local group to be able to do some local actions. At present there is not a Northamptonshire local group so I decided to join the Bedford group and have participated in a Toy Swap event with them. We try to meet up monthly for a picnic and a chat to help support each other and make plans about how we can contribute locally. There are plans to hold events in Big Green Week, at the River Festival and hold a People’s Emergency Briefing evening. If there was enough local interest in Northamptonshire then we could think about setting up a Northamptonshire local group.
