Warm Spaces

With a certain amount of irony, the combination of climate change and the rapid increase in fuel costs, it is no surprise that many – if not all – of us are turning down, or even turning off, the heating. Maintaining the most effective and efficient heat in your home is not an easy nut to crack, and often the simplest choice is to restrict when to have it on. If you go to work, this choice is easy but if you either work from home or are one of the 18% of the population in West Northants of retirement age or older, how do you keep warm?

If you are active and have the opportunity, then some form of exercise will help a great deal, as will the odd blanket and hot water bottle. But what if there was a warm place to go to, somewhere where you could meet others, or find a quiet but warm spot to pass the time?

West Northamptonshire Council, working with local partners in the voluntary and community sectors, are creating a directory of Warm Spaces. These are places that are deemed safe and welcoming to people from the authority, some even providing a hot meal or a cup of tea.

A list of Warm Places is given below. For up-to-date information, search for Looking For Warm Spaces on the West Northants website.
