Seedy Saturday 2026
Sienna Mahoney, journalism student at the University of Northampton, attended the annual Seedy Saturday event and sent us this report.
Seedy Saturday hosted their twelfth annual seed swap at the Doddridge Centre on 21st February 2026.
The event aims to promote community between local gardeners based in Northamptonshire.
Shena Cooper, the organiser of Seedy Saturday, said:
"Growing a community of people because it’s sometimes a bit lonely if you’re just in your garden on your own.
So, this is sort of a community event.”
The event also had multiple stalls for people to have a look at. Stalls included small businesses and educational pop-ups.

One was Burton Latimer Eco Team run by Adrian Watts. He spoke about how to compost and drew people’s attention to smaller insects that people may not realise they are harming. Adrian said:
“Composting could be done by anyone.
“The planet does it naturally so the fact that we find it complicated is a human trait.”

Neal’s Yard Remedies was one of the small businesses that attended. They sell organic products for inner health and outer health.
Shena also ran a raffle, the money raised went towards the hire of the Doddridge Centre and supporting different youth clubs.
The event is volunteer run, so anyone is welcome to get involved with setting up the event each year.
It’s also free to attend, and everyone is encouraged to go if they have an interest. “We could definitely do with a lot more help, especially from younger people.” said Shena.
