The Forum - BBC World Service

One of the more interesting finds of late whilst digging around BBC Sounds has been the strand The Forum on the World Service. The Forum explores a wide range of subjects including history, technology, art and philosophy, a sort of world-wide In Our Time.

Do not be put off by the rather lengthy title as ‘The writer Rachel Carson who fought insecticide wars’ is an excellent programme. It not only examines her work and her life but also looks at the legacy she left behind and the lessons that should have been learned today. Primarily a science writer with a keen interest in the sea, the book she is best remembered for is Silent Spring (see [Bookshelf](https://exchange.ca-wn.org/tag/bookshelf/)) and for lots of good reasons. In fact the story of the book and the ensuing clashes with the power of big pharma is as important as the message of the book itself.
